NOTES FOR
THE USTAADH
Islamic Perspective
* Progress depend on the education of mankind. The
object of education is:
A’llamal insaana maa lam yaa’lam
Translation: Taught
man that which
he knows not.(Aa’yah
5 suuratul Alaq).
* The parents
and guardians have
entrusted their child
to you for
his/her Islamic education.
Therefore, recognize and shoulder your responsibility with sincerity and
dedication.
* The child’s
potential to became
a good Muslim
should be cultivated
by correct education
and proper upbringing.
The Muslim Ustaadh
* A fundamental
factor in education is
love for the
child by the
tutor. Understand your pupil
and employ such
methods which are
best in obtaining
co-operation from the
child . It is important
to keep the
child’s mind at
ease and to assist
the scholar to
adapt the environment
of the Madrasah.
* The Ustaadh’s
early present in the
classroom before the
arrival of the
pupils is vital
in Ta’ liim. The
Ustaadh shall with
great care, only
leave the place
of learning after
the pupils have
left.
* The Asaatiethah
conduct should be
exemplary so that
it may be emulated by students.
It must be
remembered that the children
are observant of
even the minutest
act of the
Asaatiethah. They are also alert
and observe what he/she utters.
Therefore, whichever approach the
Ustaadh adopt, it
will be followed
by the pupils.
* The Ustaadh must
by means of
dua’a daily, beseech
the betterment and uplift
of all the pupils
in class, and also
continuously seek from Allah
the establishment of
that Madrasah, it’s progress
and safety.
* Assess the capabilities
of pupils and
form appropriate groups, then plan a
program of their
education.
Instruction Medium
*Prefer to
teach in the local language
so that the subject
could be well
understood. Swahili, Urdu, and
Gujarati have a great
number of Arabic
words of the
Qur-aan. Therefore, it would be
advisable and parent
to use one of
these languages as
the chosen medium
of instruction. This
aspect is only applicable where
the appropriate and relative
group of pupils
are attending classes
at the Madrasah
(i.e. most other languages may
however, be freely used
where these will
satisfactorily convey
meanings to achieve
the object of Ta’liim)
* In teaching
Arabic, preference should
be given to
matters from the
Qur-aan and Hadieth over
matters from story books.
Ta’liim
* The pupils
should be taught
in a manner
which will develop
in the ability to
learn and understand
their lessons.
* The
Ustaadh should be
taught first teach
the lesson on
the blackboard before
the child uses
the Kitaab. The learner must
fully understand and thoroughly revise this lesson before being taught any new
lesson. The pupil must
learn to recognize letters and
words easily and
quickly before he
or she reads
any complete sentence.
* Pupils in class one (1) should first be
taught to read the word Allah and pronounce it correctly.
* Where
a pupil’s progress
is retarded or not up
expectation, the Ustaadh
should discuss the matter
with his experienced colleagues,
the respective parents/guardian or
any qualified, recognized person.
(This is important in the fluency of reading Qur-aan).
Pupils and Classroom Cleanliness
* The
Ustaadh shall with
care see that
the classroom is
kept neat and
clean, and where
possible decorate the
room with educational charts.
* A
constant check must be
kept on the cleanliness
and Twahaarah of the
pupils, and also
the neatness of
their Qur-aans, Kitaabs,
Jouzdaans and books.
Islamic
Tar-biyyah
(Character moulding)
* It is necessary
for the Ustaadh
to give attention
to the character
and habits of the
pupils. This aspect should be
continually emphasized and monitored
just as much one
would Endeavour in
improving the comprehension
and understanding of
the child. An
effort must be
made for the young
learners to have
and to conduct themselves
according to the Islamic Shari-a’h
at all times, especially
out of Madrasah hours, when
at home or even elsewhere.
* It is the duty of
the Ustaadh to keep
a daily check
of whether the children
have performed their
daily five faradh salaah (i.e. During
the previous day). This could be effectively
done by each child
having a book that is
signed by the parents daily
and checked by
the Ustaadh. Arrangements must be
made in every Madrasah for the A’swil prayer to be performed in the presence of
the Ustaadh. The habit
of performing Prayer correctly
and punctually from
childhood is very
important.
